Chief: Ambassador of Patience & Snacks

Chief

The gentle philosopher who believes good therapy requires good timing (and treats)
Well hello there, friend! I'm Chief, and I'm the wise elder of the Speaking of Horses team. At 20-something years young (I've lost count, honestly), I've learned that the best things in life are simple: good friends, patient humans, and yes, absolutely, a snack before we get to work.
I used to teach lessons at Virginia Tech, where I perfected the art of "standing still in the ring." Back then, they called it "refusing to cooperate." Now they call it "therapeutic." Turns out I was ahead of my time! I knew that sometimes the best healing happens when everyone just stops, breathes, and chats. No rush. No pressure. Just us and our thoughts.
I'm an appaloosa, which means I'm basically a walking work of art—beautiful spots and all—but don't let my good looks fool you. I'm all about that slow life now. My trot is like floating on a cloud, and I genuinely believe that's the whole point. Why hurry when you can glide?
Here's my secret: I absolutely ADORE children. Kids get me. Adults? Eh, they're fine. But if you're under 10 and you show up with a snack? We're best friends for life.
My favorite thing is standing completely still in the ring while everyone talks around me, pretending I don't understand what "walk" means. My second favorite thing is my friends—I'm a quiet leader out in the field, which basically means I'm too cool to make a big fuss, but everyone listens to me anyway.
One important life lesson I want to share with you: Never ask a horse to work on an empty stomach. Show up with a carrot, apple, or treat, and I promise you the most peaceful, beautiful ride of your life. It's just common sense and good manners, really!
Can't wait to meet you and show you the magic of going slow.
